Frequently Asked Questions Q: Hey MarshMan, I want to get into collecting autographs
through the mail. How do I go about it ?
A: 1st You need to decide who you want to write to.
2nd You need to decide what you would like to TRY and get signed (Trading Card , Index Card, Ect..).
3rd Write a brief letter to the celeb telling them your a fan, and it helps to mention something about there career, be polite keep your letter brief I usually try to keep mine around 1/2 a page. ask for an auto after all thats why you wrote. and most importantly thank them for there time.
4th You Will Need a Small 6 3/4 envelope and a Large #10
bussiness envelope. You will need to place your address on the Small envelope and Put the Celebs address on the Large envelope place a single stamp on both of them. Place your Letter , Your Item you want signed (ex. Trading Card, Index Card, ect.) and the small envelope into the large envelope pop it in the mail. Cross Your Fingers and WAIT . Thats the hard Part. Q: Hey MarshMan, How do you make those really cool index cards ? & Can you make some for me ? A: Sorry I do not make custom index cards for other people, as they are alitte time consuming, and I would never have the time to make any for myself.
Here's How to Make them for yourself :
I use Microsoft Word (any word processor will do) I use the rulers on the top and side as a guide for my 3x5 cards. You then can add your graphics and text.
Next I take a small piece of tape and tape the card to the top left corner of a sheet of paper and then simply run it through my printer.
Tip: One thing that has helped me save time is Saving my Cards as Templates. I have one just for HOF'ers, Heismans, Cubs, Cowboys, ect. this makes it real easy next time I want to send the same type of card out. Q: Hey MarshMan, How do E-Mail autographs work ? A: E-Mail Autographs work just like regular autograph requests except you just send an email to the celeb.
Address Can be found all over the Net, one great place to start is Stararchive.com , University Websites, Search Engines, Ect... It will take a little digging but certainly pays off when you get a Freebie in the mail.
I also usually include my home address when I send my email
there is no guarentee that you will get anything at all.
I also try to write a even more sincere email than I would a letter for the simple fact that celebs probally get more email requests than through the mail requests and after all you could be getting something for free, so it dosent hurt to try a little harder.
One of my best success ever came from email Mad-Tv's Debra Wilson Sent me a Color Auto'd Photo, A Cassette Tape answering all my questions I asked her. and a key chain. what a great lady. another success I had was from a female boxer who sent me 4 different signed 8x10's and then started corresponding with me on regular basis. So goes to show a little sincerity pays off. |
